2021
We are mourning the sudden death of Silke Helfrich. Beyond the personal, this is a big loss for the knowledge production and network building on Commoning and the Commons.
curator talk
booklet release on Wednesday, 23.06.2021, 19.00 - 20.30 CEST (online), an event with Helena Reckitt (Reader in Curating, Goldsmiths, University of London), Vera Hofmann (artist, curator and former board member of Schwules Museum, Berlin), Birgit Bosold (curator and board member of Schwules Museum, Berlin) and Ulrike Boskamp (art historian, director of Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung, Hohenlockstedt). After a short introduction by Ulrike Boskamp, Helena Reckitt will talk with Birgit Bosold and Vera Hofmann. Afterwards, discussion will be open to all participants. The event will be held in English.
out in June 17th 2021:
Birgit Bosold, Vera Hofmann: Year of the Women* / Jahr der Frau_en, Schwules Museum 2018, kuratieren #7, ed. Ulrike Boskamp, 2021The concept of these booklets can be described as texts from the praxis. They deal with curatorial opportunities that often arise in small institutions, non-representative, rather questing. Each booklet reflects work done at a specific place in a specific period of time.
Birgit Bosold and Vera Hofmann do exactly this: They reflect on their curatorial work at Schwules Museum in Berlin in 2018, which was proclaimed the Year of the Women* and turned out to be quite controversial. The result is a courageous booklet that, on the one hand, deals with the curatorial work behind the scenes and the handling of hostility, and on the other hand takes a look at the different positions and approaches of the two curators, where conflicts become visible and thus reflectable.
The booklet is available for free download here. Printed copies are available from us and at Schwules Museum (SMU) in Berlin for 5 Euro.
